NetHack is a highly randomized game; however, despite this it is possible to identify items through the use of shops. Several NetHack spoilers have been created to help you identify items, but they all have one fundemental flaw: tables. Clippy helps automate a lot of this item identification process.

Note: This tool does qualify as a spoiler. If you do not what any part of NetHack spoiled, then do not use Clippy. Don't worry. You won't hurt his feelings.

Clippy is released to the wild!
Tuesday, 12 June, 2001 Lee Berger <lberger@roy.org>

For the last month, I have been trying to get Clippy ready for public consumption. Well, no more! He is being released into the wild if he is ready or not!

The biggest area where Clippy is lacking is documentation. Over the course of the next few weeks, I will try to put together some basic usage documentation. Clippy should be fairly self explanatory.

Keep in mind that everything is from the perspective of the player, so "Selling" means you selling something to the shop keeper.

The Type field allows you to search on an items class. Enter in-game letter representation of the item. For example, if you are searching for scrolls, enter a ? for the type.

The Description field will search only items that contain the specified string in the Name and Description fields in the database. This is useful when you only want to search for "boots", for example.

Please send any feedback about Clippy to me, and bug reports are greatly appreciated. To use Clippy, just click on the Clippy Search link on the menu to the left.
